Hagi ware, or Hagi Yaki, is a type of porcelain made in the city of Hagi in Yamaguchi prefecture, Japan. Its unique feature is its natural, undecorated appearance, which highlights the clay's natural texture. Hagi ware is also known for its "seven disguises," or variations in color and texture created by cracks in the clay during firing. It is often used for tea bowls with a notched foot design and is made from a combination of three different soils for excellent heat retention. Hagi ware's origins can be traced back to the arrival of Korean potters in Hagi following Japan's invasion of Korea in the 16th century.
