A vintage Japanese natsume tea caddy in red urushi lacquer over a wooden base, hand-painted with a traditional makie floral pattern. The rounded jujube shape with flat lid is the classic form used for usucha (thin tea) ceremony. Shows natural aging scratches consistent with vintage use; please review photos for detail.

Buyer Note

The natsume is the standard tea caddy for usucha (thin tea) in Japanese Chadō ceremony. Its rounded form resembles the jujube (natsume) fruit, and the flat lid is ritually wiped with a fukusa silk cloth before use. This piece is also compact enough to serve as a small decorative container.

Handmade wood lacquer construction with traditional urushi and makie techniques. No maker signature or certificate is present.

Care Note

Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth. Avoid prolonged water contact and direct sunlight to protect the urushi lacquer finish.
