What to Know Before You Buy
Is the gold real? Was it really broken or just painted on?
Real kintsugi means a genuinely broken piece repaired with lacquer and finished with gold, and you can feel the repair lines. Pieces with only painted gold lines are common on the market and are not true kintsugi. Pieces we restore ourselves use real gold. Kintsugi pieces we source from third parties in Japan vary by piece, so check each listing. Our listings show close up photos of the repair so you can judge for yourself.
Is kintsugi food safe? Can I actually use it?
Kintsugi done with pure gold and traditional materials is non toxic. Many owners use these pieces sparingly because they cherish them, but a vessel gains real value through use and the interaction between person and object. Each listing states the repair materials and suggested use.
How do I care for kintsugi?
Hand wash gently, no dishwasher, no long soaking in liquid.
What does the base mark say? Is it real Kutani?
We photograph the base mark on every piece. One honest note: pieces marked "Genuine Kutani" in English are typically mid 20th century export ware, not domestic Japanese market pieces. With vintage ceramics, judging authenticity takes experience, and we are honest about what we can and cannot verify. Please look closely at the photos before buying.(我不清楚这个要放哪里去。。。)
