Large vintage Naruko Kokeshi doll standing approximately 15.75 inches tall, handcrafted and hand-painted wood with a traditional chrysanthemum (Kasanegiku) pattern. The head turns and produces the characteristic Naruko squeak. Signed by the artisan Kusatsu on the underside of the base.

Buyer Note

Naruko Kokeshi are a traditional style of Japanese wooden doll originating from the Naruko Onsen area of Miyagi Prefecture, Tohoku region. They are distinguished by their squeaking head mechanism, single-eyelid face painting, and chrysanthemum body pattern. Kokeshi have been crafted for over 150 years and were designated a national traditional handicraft in 1981.

Authenticity Note

Artisan signature present on the underside of the base, attributed to Kusatsu. Naruko style confirmed by chrysanthemum (Kasanegiku) pattern, squeaking head mechanism, and characteristic girl face painting.

Care Note

Dust gently with a soft dry cloth. Keep away from direct sunlight and high humidity to prevent further cracking.
