Handmade Japanese Makie Natsume tea caddy in red lacquer over wood with a traditional gold ribbon and arrow pattern. Used for usucha (thin tea) ceremonies; the rounded base and flat lid follow the classic natsume form. This piece has a small chip on the rim of the mouth and minor surface scratches, reflected in the discounted price.

The Natsume is a high-ranking tea utensil used in usucha (thin tea) ceremonies. Its name comes from its resemblance to the jujube (natsume) fruit. It features a flat lid and rounded base and is traditionally made of lacquered wood. In tea ceremony practice, the Natsume is ritually cleansed with a fukusa (silk cloth) before use.
