Vintage Yajiro style Kokeshi wooden doll, handmade and signed by the maker on the underside. The large head is decorated with red petals and the cylindrical body is painted with a plum (ume) blossom kimono motif. Yajiro Kokeshi are a traditional folk craft originating from the Kamasaki Onsen area of Miyagi Prefecture, Tohoku, Japan. They are recognized by their slim cylindrical body, large head, almond-shaped eyes, and floral kimono motifs. Kokeshi have been crafted for over 150 years and are now collected as decorative folk art.

Signed by the maker on the underside of the doll. Handmade in Japan.
