Vintage Bizen ware (Bizen-yaki) waste-water bowl with an inverted ubaguchi rim, traditionally used in the tea ceremony. The rim carries stable kintsugi gold lacquer repairs that add to the piece's character rather than diminish it. Suitable as a kensui, calligraphy brush washer, or ikebana base.

Please review all photos and video for actual color, size, texture, and vintage details before purchase.

Size Approx. W6" (15 cm) x H4.75" (12 cm)
Weight Item weight: 3.6lb (1.63kg)
Material Unglazed high-fired stoneware with natural yohen (kiln effects); characteristic of Bizen-yaki pottery
Origin Japan
Era / Style Vintage; Bizen-yaki tradition (one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns); wabi-sabi aesthetic
Included Bowl only

Buyer Note

Kensui is the waste-water bowl used in Japanese tea ceremony (chanoyu). The inverted ubaguchi rim is a traditional design that prevents water from splashing. Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold lacquer, treating the repair as part of the object's history rather than a flaw to hide.

Authenticity Note

Consistent with authentic Bizen-yaki unglazed stoneware. Natural yohen kiln effects are characteristic of traditional Bizen firing. No maker's stamp or signature confirmed from source data.

Care Note

Unglazed stoneware is porous. Avoid prolonged soaking. Hand wash gently and dry thoroughly. Do not use in microwave or dishwasher.

Condition: EXCELLENT

Notes:
Vintage condition. Visible kintsugi gold lacquer repairs on the rim. Repairs are stable and structurally sound. No other cracks. Please review all photos carefully before purchasing.
