Authentic Kutani ware porcelain tokkuri made to commemorate an honorable discharge from the 623rd Infantry, featuring a gilt five-pointed army star, hand-painted sakura, and gold unit inscription on the base. The base is clearly marked Kutani and inscribed in gold with the unit commemoration text. Taisho or early Showa period. Excellent vintage condition.

Kutani ware is a style of Japanese porcelain originating in the Kaga region, known for bold overglaze enamel and gilt decoration. Military discharge commemorative tokkuri were presented to soldiers upon honorable discharge during the Imperial Japan era and are now collected as militaria and vintage Japanese ceramics.

Authenticity Note

Base is clearly marked Kutani in gold. Gold inscription reads: Commemoration of Discharge from the 623rd Infantry. Handmade Kutani ware consistent with Taisho or early Showa period production.

Care Note

Handle with care. Do not submerge or machine wash. Wipe gently with a dry or lightly damp cloth. Gold leaf and overglaze enamel are delicate.
